Is it insomnia? Running on fumes

Five consecutive days (and who knows, maybe I’m so tired now that I’m forgetting that it’s more) I have woken in the late night hours sometime between 1am and 3am and staying awake for the rest of the night and getting up with the pre-dawn. I don’t have a clue as to what is behind the early morning wake-up, but I do know it’s getting me down both physically and emotionally.
I just hope my body isn’t learning a new ‘pattern’ because that would seriously stink.
Last night I went to bed at 9pm and woke up at 3am, and drifted in and out of sleep repeatedly for the rest of the morning. I find that I can go back to sleep for another 2 hours around 5:30—which is typically at the point that I just get up on a work day, instead of laying in bed another half hour when my alarm clock is scheduled to go off. I can’t do that during the work week, as much I would love to do so.
Is it stress? Is it the new medication I’ve been taking for a month? I’m hoping it doesn’t continue.
