Sleepytime Crusade

From the hours of 2pm and 4pm, I suffer from my usual post lunch lethargy. Nothing I do can shake the head nods and the eyelid drifts. Getting up and moving around for a few minutes to get the blood flowing helps for all of a few minutes before I am once again in the same predicament.
Even with work to focus on, my mind drifts in almost helpless wonder such that I have to keep my hands moving and my mind skipping along from topic to topic at almost breakneck speed.
So this afternoon, I thought I would take a stab at another WotD writings (approx 100 words).
From dictionary.com, the word is
hapless \HAP-lis\, adjective:
unlucky; unfortunate
Skidding and slipping around a sharp curve on the mountain side, Carol tried to maintain control of her car. She knew it was a useless endeavor, as the brakes were out and the roads were slick from the morning’s thunderstorm.
She tried once more in engaging her emergency break, and she was surprised when her car finally started to slow, only to have the happiness wiped off her face by the blowing of an air horn. She looked up in time to see the twin lights of a semi barreling down on her, before everything went dark.
Carol should have heeded the warning in her daily horoscope, it had said ‘today would involve a hapless accident.’
