WOTD – April 26th, 2007: Facetious
Posted on | April 26, 2007 | No Comments
facetious (fuh-SEE-shus) adjective
Jocular or humorous, often inappropriately.
[From Latin facetus (witty).]
Marvin didn’t realize that his comments about the weight Joan had put on over the last two weeks were a sad attempt at being humorous, and instead just came off as being facetious and hurtful. Joan sighed in frustration at her husband’s lack of tact and circumspection, and was tempted to tell him, in just the same tone he had taken, that he could sleep on the couch for being an insensitive idiot.
