Lead Candidate for Job Posting

As some of you know, just over two weeks ago I went to a job interview for a Web Developer position with the Alberta Justice division of the Alberta Provincial Government. I thought I had goofed up royally on the ‘testing portion’ of the interview, where I had to correct some HTML and CSS code. Anyway, the two weeks passed and I heard nothing back, so I had assumed that I wasn’t in the running any longer for the position. Then two days ago, the Human Resources person who had been at my interview called and wanted to speak to my boss because I had listed him as a reference. They played phone tag for a day or so and then today, they finally managed to connect, and when the phone call ended, my boss came down and said “so, you’re the lead candidate.”
Okay. I’m still kind of stunned. The husband has been anxiously waiting more so than I have been about this position. He definitely sees it as a step up from my current job, both in salary and benefits. The thought of a new job has been hard, because I’ve been with the same company for over seven years now and I’ve developed friendships with my bosses. I’m the only employee with three bosses
. I can dress casually and take hour-long lunches. I doubt I’ll be able to do so with this job, if I were to take it. However, I still have a few more hurdles to get over, before they can officially offer the job to me. Since it is with the government, I have to pass a Criminal Records Check and the HR person has to check out my education credentials. Well, I know there’s no real hurdle there. I’m not a criminal and my education is as I said it was.
I hate change. I honestly do. However, this year will be filled with them in some form or fashion. If it were at all possible, I’d ask my current bosses if they could possibly match the ‘offer’ that Justice will present to me. I just know however that they’d probably start laughing their butts off and tell me ‘good luck and it was good knowing you.’
