WOTD – April 23rd, 2007: Abstemious
Posted on | April 23, 2007 | No Comments
abstemious (ab-STEE-mee-uhs) adjective
Sparing, especially in matters of eating and drinking.
[From Latin abstemius, from ab- (from) + temetum (liquor).]
Susan never thought that she would become such an abstemious person after living a life sure to be labeled gluttonous. But once seeing the movie Super Size Me, she had decided that eating and drinking in moderation would definitely be the better health choice. She still craved McDonald’s fries — they tasted so good, and she did partake once every few months. Now however, she felt better about herself physically and mentally; she gave herself a pat on the back for learning that a diet that was sparing lent itself to a rich life in other terms.
