WOTD – May 19th, 2005: menagerie

menagerie: a collection of wild or unusual animals; also, a diverse group. (noun)

It was well known that Old Lady Smith, who lived down the street, had a menagerie living in her house. She was a sweet women who was a sucker for any stray that crossed her path. She had cats, dogs, birds, turtles, rabbits, and even a frog or two. All the kids in the neighborhood thought she was crazy, but kind and so they often visited her house-bound zoo to play with the animals she collected. No one of course knew how she could afford to feed all her pets, but she managed and the entire neighborhood was happy.
