ameliorate: to make or grow better. (verb)

Camden had no clue what to do with the old garden that came with the run-down house he had inherited. The old woman next door, who was probably just as old as or even older than the house he now owned, suggested he find a women to help him, a wife who would ameliorate the garden, help him make the house a home and possibly give him some kids to fill all those empty rooms. He thought her suggestion had merit, because he certainly couldn’t grow a cactus, let alone decorate a home.
