WOTD – April 29th, 2005: extol

extol: to praise (verb)
The awards ceremony had gone on longer than any sane person could have wished. The food had been surprisingly edible, and the company at my table had been congenial, but the length of the award presentation had been interminable. Our MC for the evening, the mayor of Castleton, had felt the need to extol each and every person who was there to receive an award in great length.
Once the ceremony was over, I escaped the banquet hall as soon as I thought was allowable and made my way home. Perhaps next year, I would be awarded for being patient.
